I've been procrastinating for a whole month now, so it's about time I begin with my record collection. First up is this little gem by AC/DC, a band I've loved since I was a little kid.
Back in the beginning when Bon Scott was still their singer, every AC/DC album sounded pretty much the same. Simple bluesy hard rock that's not quite heavy enough to be METAL, but has plenty of good riffs and solos, and lyrics about sex, drinking, rock'n'roll and other kinds of debauchery.
Of course we all know Angus Young, the tiny little guitarist who wears a school uniform on stage and plays some of the most HARD and AWESOME riffs and solos known to man, and Bon Scott, the BAD DUDE lead singer who later choked on his own vomit, and sung like he was already choking on a potato and managed to sing the songs' fairly generic cock-rock lyrics in a manner that's actually convincing.
All the songs are good, especially the two really huge hits: It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n Roll), a super-catchy song WITH BAGPIPES (honestly, how could a rock song with bagpipes in it possibly not be good?), and the anthemic T.N.T, which is about some sort of western cowboy anti-hero who may or may not be a rapist. Unfortunately, there's always the problem that plagues pretty much every AC/DC release: it gets awfully samey after a while.
FINAL GRADE: 8/10
BEST SONG: Tie between It's A Long Way to the Top and TNT
I'll try to get as many reviews done today as I can, so stay tuned.
oh, and the next six reviews will be about AC/DC too, so come back later if you don't like AC/DC
